Sprouts: Dec 16-18 (CORE)

This week started off with the creation of our gingerbread dough & a dance party with the Seedlings & Saplings! Jessica’s class also prepared snacks for the whole school: chips and assorted dips. Yum! 😋 While baking we learned about fractions and where they show up in a recipe. Students used our fruit fraction board to iniate their understanding around halves, quarters and thirds. When it was their turn to add an ingredient, each Sprout had an opportunity to find the corresponding measuring cup/spoon. I’ve drawn fraction pictures on each cup/spoon to support their understanding.

On Monday afternoon, those students who needed to finish gift wrapping did so. Mom & Dad gifts should have made it home to you. We also ensured that all our secret santa gifts were complete and wrapped for today’s exchange.

It was MY turn for Mystery Bag Monday (students suggested this last week) so I took the opportunity to fill the Mystery Bag with Jessica & I’s gift to our students: hand knit slippers. All slippers were made by my 93 year old Grandma and it fills her heart to share her creations with children. The Sprouts were very excited to receive their own pair and tried them on for some fun pictures. They couldn’t get over the comfort - especially with no socks. 😆

On Tuesday we cut out our Gingerbread cookies and had the chance to try out an escape room! Jessica made us a ‘Sprout version’ which really challenged the students to use their problem-solving skills and their magical ‘yet’. We got to be reminded that we can do hard things! We solved all of the puzzles and cracked the code. 🙌🏼 This allowed Santa’s magic to be returned to him and a magical bird to be gifted to each of us. Some students watched Home Alone in the afternoon, while others helped to pop popcorn right from our garden corn cobs! It was a success and very tasty.

Today was a full day of our solstice celebration, our gift exchange, and the Christmas Feast! We also celebrated Lola’s 5th Birthday with the Gingerbread cookies the kids had been waiting allllll week to eat!! 😅 It was an awesome day.

Students will be coming home with their gift from their secret santa, slippers, a gift from Oakley, and a variety of crafts and decorations. We played Christmas Bingo today and also did some Christmas Colouring.

To end the day we held our first ever Christmas Costume Contest! Nine creative and courageous souls stepped up to strut their stuff in Christmas character mode. Ethan was our student judge alongside Jessica & Myself. Everyone looked AMAZING and did a wonderful job. Isla was our winner!

I’m grateful for a wonderful group of curious and eager learners this year! We’ve had a blast in 2024. Have a heart-warming Christmas everyone!⭐️🎄
